Rotisserie chicken, salsa, cheese, and a loaf of French bread make a quick and easy Chicken Taco French Bread Pizza. It’s on the table in under 30 for a fast and family friendly dinner.
Today it’s all about pizza at From Our Family Table. Quick and easy pizza recipes, to be exact. I know, it doesn’t sound like that’s possible, but I’m telling you it is!
Yes, you can buy pizza dough ready to bake from the grocery store. And you can even buy those pre-made pre-cooked pizza discs. I say discs because I just want to toss it like a discuss at a track meet. Don’t tell me you haven’t considered doing that when using one of those.
I used to make pizza with those all the time. However, for me the crust is a little crunchy when it comes out of the oven. Mind you, I usually ask for the thin crust pizza so I’m all about the crispy, but it’s just too crispy for me. I’ve used tostadas and pita bread to make pizza when I was single. And, to make the pita extra crispy I would separate them and pre-bake them for added crunch.
And then I decided to bite the bullet and try a French bread pizza.
My memories of French bread pizza consist of those frozen ones that were popular in the 90s. Or those pizzas from school. Neither of which were very good. Even though I ate my fair share of the frozen ones. There was something about the pepperoni flavor and that soggy pizza crust that tasted delicious to me at that time. Don’t ask me why.
And don’t ask me why I decided to try my hand at making French bread pizza. It’s probably because I suck at making homemade pizza dough. I’ve tried a few times and it just doesn’t quite work out well. It’s on my list of things to accomplish at some point in my life. But I still want to be able to eat pizza at home that’s not frozen. That’s probably why I turned to French bread pizzas.
Not only do they not require pizza dough, but they’re super easy to make and bake up for your family. There’s no stretching of dough, raising of crusts, cornmeal everywhere to deal with. There’s just a loaf of bread, sauce, cheese, and toppings. This Chicken Taco French Bread Pizza goes on a baking sheet; not a pizza stone or steel. And French bread pizzas typically bake up in less time, too.
Not that I’m dissing regular pizza. Don’t get me wrong. I love regular pizza. But, I also love quick and easy pizza recipes. I want to be able to toss some toppings on the French bread, pop it into the oven, and have dinner on the table in under 30 minutes.
Oh yeah. I said under 30 minutes!
To be honest, Chicken Taco French Bread Pizza was on the table under 20 minutes. I only had to chop some chicken and open a can of green chiles. If you hit the salad bar at the grocery, there’s no chopping involved. In fact, there’s several grocery stores in my area that have peppers and onions already diced up. Sometimes there’s carrots and other veggies chopped up for convenience, too.
My husband and his father inspired by first French bread pizza; Hot Hawaiian French Bread Pizza. Now, the hubs didn’t really grow up where he his father’s personal tastes and interests could influence my husband. I just want to get that out the way first. When we were spending time with his dad and stepmom for the first time, it came out that they both love Hawaiian pizza. There’s no way the hubs would have learned that from his dad. It’s gotta be genetic.
And I say that because there’s so many other traits and likes they share. They’re both very competitive in nature. At least the hubs doesn’t gloat like his father does. I’m not a huge fan of that. He just refuses to play games with me because I get frustrated when I repeatedly lose. I mean, who doesn’t, right? They like a lot of the same foods, they look so much alike, and they both enjoy music. His dad is a DJ for his community.
I mean, you can’t get any more proof that some of these things are genetic. There’s no way he could have learned these behaviors or interests. He didn’t see his father for most of his life. The hubs didn’t have any communication with anyone on his father’s side of the family either.
So, because of all these similar traits, I started making French bread pizza. Not really, but it was the first one I made inspired by those wo guys. But really, I started making them more for the convenience and ease more than anything.
They’re quick, easy, and totally tasty.
I’ve made quite a few on the blog. I think my favorite is the Filet French Bread Pizza. You actually put thin slices of raw filet on the pizza and it cooks to perfection in the oven. The onions and the blue cheese make it steak house worth! You’ll have to check out the other French bread pizza recipes I have. There’s a list at after the recipe or you can click here to jump to it. There’s also a list of other quick and easy pizza recipes including some doughs with easy prep work.
